Pompom Jar — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 October 2026
Pompom Jar ("the app") is made by Geoff Watts ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app handles and where it goes. The short version: your jars and names stay on your devices and in your own iCloud account; we only receive anonymous usage counts, and you can turn those off.
Your jars and pompoms
- The jars you create (their names, colours, sizes and pompom counts) are stored on your device and, if you're signed in to iCloud, in your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit so they sync between your devices.
- We cannot see this data. It's held by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, not on any server of ours.
- If you share jars with family, the people you invite can see and change those jars. You can stop sharing, or remove people, at any time in Settings › Share with family.
- To delete your data, delete the jars in the app. You can also remove the app's iCloud data in iOS Settings › [your name] › iCloud › Manage Storage.
Anonymous usage statistics
To understand how the app is used and improve it, the app sends anonymous usage events to our analytics provider, PostHog (servers in the United States). For example: "app opened", "a pompom was added", "a jar was filled", "the share sheet was opened", along with counts such as how many jars you have.
These events include:
- A random identifier created by the app on your device (not linked to your name, Apple ID, email or advertising identifier).
- General technical information: app version, iOS version, device model (e.g. "iPhone"), language, time zone and screen size.
These events never include jar names, family names, or anything you type. IP addresses are discarded and not used to work out your location. The analytics library also downloads its own settings when the app starts.
You can turn this off at any time: Settings › Privacy › Share anonymous usage stats. Deleting the app removes the random identifier.
We do not use advertising, we do not sell data, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Purchases
Pompom Plus is purchased through Apple. We never receive your payment details. Apple tells the app whether you own Plus so it can unlock features. Purchase events (for example "purchase completed") are included in the anonymous statistics above.
Parent lock
If you turn on the parent lock, your PIN is stored only on that device, in the iOS Keychain. It is never sent anywhere. "Forgot PIN?" uses Face ID / Touch ID or your device passcode, which is handled entirely by iOS; the app never receives biometric data.
Photos
If you choose to save a picture of your jars, iOS asks for permission to add photos to your library. The app cannot read your existing photos.
Children
Pompom Jar is designed for parents and families to use together, with children often watching or helping. The app does not ask for, or knowingly collect, personal information from children. Names typed into the app (for example a child's name on a jar) stay on your devices and in your iCloud account and are never sent to us.
Changes
If this policy changes we'll update the date above, and for significant changes we'll mention it in the app's release notes.
